Important: What "Detox" Actually Means
Before we get into the details, let us be clear about what IV therapy can and cannot do for detox. The wellness industry uses the word "detox" loosely, and some marketing claims are not supported by the science.
Your body has a sophisticated, built-in detoxification system. Your liver, kidneys, lungs, skin, and gut all work together to neutralize and eliminate harmful substances every day. This system runs 24/7 without any supplements or treatments. For most healthy people, the body's natural detox does its job well.
IV therapy cannot "flush toxins" out of your body in any literal sense. There is no IV drip that removes heavy metals, alcohol, drugs, environmental chemicals, or other substances faster than your body's own systems. Anyone telling you otherwise is making claims that are not supported by evidence.
What IV therapy can do is provide nutrients that your body's natural detox system uses to function. Glutathione is the most important antioxidant your body produces and is heavily involved in liver detoxification. Vitamin C, B vitamins, and amino acids all support the metabolic pathways your body uses to process and eliminate substances. The drip supports the natural process; it does not replace or accelerate it in any magical way.
With realistic expectations, IV therapy can be a useful part of a wellness routine that includes good sleep, balanced nutrition, exercise, and reduced exposure to harmful substances. The drip is supportive only.
How Your Body's Natural Detox System Works
Your body's detoxification system has multiple parts working together. Understanding how it actually works helps explain why certain nutrients support the process.

Phase I and Phase II Liver Detoxification
Your liver is the main detox organ. It processes substances in two main phases. Phase I uses enzymes (cytochrome P450) to convert substances into intermediate compounds, which are sometimes more reactive than the original. Phase II then attaches molecules to these intermediates to make them water-soluble and ready for elimination through urine or bile.
Both phases require specific nutrients to function. Phase I uses B vitamins, vitamin C, and other cofactors. Phase II uses amino acids (cysteine, glycine, taurine, methionine) and glutathione. When your nutrient stores are depleted, both phases slow down.
Kidney Filtration
Your kidneys filter waste products from your bloodstream and eliminate them through urine. This process requires good hydration to work well. Mild dehydration slows kidney filtration and can let waste products build up. One liter of fluid through an IV supports kidney function and helps your body do what it already does naturally.
Glutathione: The Master Detoxifier
Glutathione is the most important antioxidant your body makes. It is produced primarily in your liver and used throughout your body to neutralize free radicals, support immune function, and conjugate harmful substances during Phase II detoxification.
Glutathione levels naturally drop with age, stress, alcohol use, illness, and exposure to environmental toxins. When glutathione runs low, your liver's ability to handle detoxification slows down. Supplementing through IV therapy provides a more direct boost than oral glutathione, which is poorly absorbed through the gut.
Gut Function
Your gut eliminates substances through bile and stool. A healthy gut microbiome supports this process. IV therapy does not directly address gut health, but the overall wellness support can be one part of a broader plan that includes good nutrition and possibly probiotics.
Lung and Skin Elimination
Your lungs eliminate volatile substances through breath, and your skin eliminates some substances through sweat. These pathways are minor compared to liver and kidney function but contribute to overall detoxification.

What Actually Supports Healthy Detoxification
If you want to support your body's natural detox processes, the evidence-based approaches are simple.
- Drink enough water (kidney filtration depends on hydration)
- Eat plenty of vegetables and fruits (provide nutrients for liver enzymes)
- Reduce alcohol intake (alcohol is heavily processed by the liver)
- Get 7 to 9 hours of sleep per night (the brain has its own detox system that runs during sleep)
- Exercise regularly (supports circulation, lung function, and lymphatic flow)
- Reduce exposure to harmful substances when possible (smoking, excessive alcohol, certain chemicals)
- Eat sulfur-containing foods (broccoli, garlic, onions support glutathione production)
- Consider IV therapy as a supplement (provides high doses of supportive nutrients)
There are no shortcuts. Juice cleanses, colonics, fasting, and most commercial "detox" products are not supported by strong evidence. Your body does the work; you support it.

How IV Therapy Supports Detox
A detox-supporting IV provides several types of support.
Glutathione is the standout ingredient. The high doses delivered through IV therapy give your body more raw material for liver detoxification and antioxidant defense. Many clients report feeling clearer and more energized after a glutathione-rich drip.
Vitamin C supports both liver detoxification and antioxidant defense. The high doses through IV therapy can provide stronger support than oral supplementation.
B vitamins support the energy production needed for detoxification reactions. Liver enzymes use B vitamins as cofactors, and depletion can slow the process.
Amino acids in the Zen Cocktail support Phase II detoxification reactions. Glycine, taurine, and other amino acids are used to make substances water-soluble for elimination.
Hydration supports kidney filtration. One liter of fluid into your bloodstream gives your kidneys what they need to filter and eliminate waste effectively.

Common NYC Detox Support Scenarios
After heavy weekends. Wedding weekends, bachelor or bachelorette parties, holiday celebrations, or just a heavy social weekend can leave you feeling depleted. Many clients book a drip Monday morning to support their recovery.
After holidays. Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's, and other holidays often involve more food and alcohol than usual. Drips in early January are common as people start a wellness reset.
January wellness reset. Many clients use January as a time to reset wellness habits. A drip can be one piece of a broader plan that includes better sleep, hydration, exercise, and reduced alcohol.
Pre-cleanse support. Some clients pair IV therapy with a juice cleanse or modified eating plan. The drip provides nutrients during the cleanse period.
After heavy travel. Long international trips often involve unusual food, alcohol, and disrupted sleep. A drip on return can support recovery.
After environmental exposure. Smoke exposure (wildfires, secondhand smoke), heavy pollution, or other environmental stressors can be a reason to support glutathione levels through IV therapy.
Post-illness recovery. After fighting off an illness, your body's antioxidant stores are depleted. A drip can support recovery.
Healthy aging routines.
Many wellness-focused clients add periodic detox-support drips to their broader healthy aging plan.
Real-World Examples
The Manhattan client after a wedding weekend:
A 34-year-old client in the Upper East Side attends a 4-day destination wedding with significant drinking, sleep deprivation, and rich food. By Monday morning, she feels depleted and rough. She books a Mega Myers IV at her apartment. The fluids and glutathione help her recovery, and she is back to feeling normal by Tuesday morning.
The Brooklyn client during January reset:
A 41-year-old client in Williamsburg uses January to reset her wellness habits after a heavy holiday season. She books a Zen Cocktail in early January, then again two weeks later. She also reduces her alcohol intake, increases sleep, and adds yoga. She gives credit for her improved energy and clarity to the combination of habits, with the drips as one supportive element.
The Long Island client after smoke exposure:
A 49-year-old client visits family in California during wildfire season. She has a few days of significant smoke exposure. After returning to NYC, she books a Mega Myers IV to support her body's antioxidant system. She does this once a week for two weeks, and feels her energy returns to baseline.

When IV Therapy Is Not the Right Choice
Wellness IV therapy is supportive only. If you have any of these situations, see a doctor before relying on IV therapy:
- Suspected poisoning or toxic exposure (call Poison Control or go to ER)
- Active or untreated kidney disease (high-dose vitamins may be inappropriate)
- Active or untreated liver disease (some ingredients may be inappropriate)
- Suspected drug overdose
- Heavy metal poisoning concerns (requires medical chelation, not wellness IV)
- Active addiction or withdrawal (requires medical detox, not wellness IV)

Frequently Asked Questions
Will the drip flush toxins out of my body?
No. There is no IV drip that mechanically flushes toxins. The drip provides nutrients your body's natural detox system uses to function. Your liver and kidneys do the actual work.
How fast will I feel results?
Many clients feel an energy lift and clarity within hours of the drip. The deeper effects build over days. Detox is a continuous process, not a one-time event.
How often should I book a detox support drip?
Most clients book one every 4 to 6 weeks for general support, or more frequently after specific events (heavy weekends, illness, environmental exposure).
How much does a detox support drip cost?
Mega Myers and Zen Cocktail are $399. Myers Cocktail is $299. Hydration IV is $229. There are no hidden travel fees in our standard service area.
Will the drip help me lose weight?
No. Detox-support drips do not cause weight loss. We have a separate Weight Loss IV designed to support metabolism, but no IV will cause weight loss on its own.
Can I do a juice cleanse with IV therapy?
Some clients pair the two. We do not recommend extended juice cleanses without medical supervision because they can cause nutrient deficiencies. The drip can support your nutrition during a brief cleanse.
Will the drip help my hangover?
Yes. We have a separate Hangover IV with anti-nausea, anti-pain, and anti-heartburn medication that is more targeted than a detox-support drip. Use the Hangover IV for acute hangover; use detox-support drips for general wellness.
Can the drip help with heavy metal exposure?
Heavy metal exposure requires medical evaluation and possibly chelation therapy, which is a different medical treatment. Wellness IV therapy is not appropriate for suspected heavy metal poisoning.
Is high-dose glutathione safe?
In standard wellness IV doses, yes. We use moderate doses approved by our medical provider and screen for any conditions that would make glutathione inappropriate.
Will the drip help my liver?
The drip supports the same nutrients your liver uses for detoxification. It is not a treatment for liver disease. If you have known liver disease, talk to your hepatologist before booking.
Are the nurses actual registered nurses?
Yes. Every Zen IV Spa nurse is a licensed registered nurse (RN). All treatments are also overseen by a licensed nurse practitioner or medical provider.
Is a detox drip the same as a vitamin drip?
Most of our detox-support drips are vitamin and antioxidant drips. The framing of "detox" is about how the nutrients support your body's natural process, not about the drip itself doing anything special.
Can I customize my detox drip?
In some cases, yes. Our medical provider can adjust ingredients based on your goals during intake.
Do you accept insurance?
We do not bill insurance, but we accept all major credit cards. Some clients have had success using HSA/FSA accounts.
Will I feel sick after the drip?
No. Detox-support drips are not designed to make you feel worse. If anyone offers you a drip that promises to make you feel sick from "toxins releasing," that is not based on evidence.
