Additional Saline Bag IV Add-On in NYC

Sometimes one liter is not enough. When you are seriously dehydrated, deep into hangover recovery, or fresh off a hard race, a second saline bag changes the math. The additional saline add-on at Zen IV Spa adds a full 1 liter of lactated ringers or normal saline to your IV session. It is $160 and turns a single drip into a real, two liter hydration reset.

When People Add a Second Bag

Most clients add a second bag when they are starting from a real deficit. A bad hangover, food poisoning aftermath, marathon recovery, or several days of poor hydration can all leave your body in a hole that one liter cannot fully fill.

What Lactated Ringers and Normal Saline Are

Both are sterile IV fluids used in hospitals and IV therapy. Normal saline is a mix of salt water at the same salt level as your blood. Lactated ringers adds a few electrolytes like potassium and calcium, plus a buffer called lactate that helps balance pH. Most of our drips use LR for that extra electrolyte support.

Drips That Already Use Two Liters

The Zen Cocktail IV ($399) and Ultimate IV ($699) are built around up to 2 liters of fluids. The Ultimate IV calls for a vitals check between the first and second bag, which our RNs handle as part of the session.

How a Second Bag Affects Your Session

Each liter of IV fluids takes 30 to 60 minutes to run, depending on the drip rate. Adding a second bag turns a one hour session into roughly a 90 minute to two hour appointment. Your RN keeps you comfortable through the whole session, checks vitals between bags, and adjusts as needed.

Safety Notes for Higher Fluid Volume

Two liters of fluids is well tolerated by most healthy adults. People with heart failure, certain kidney conditions, or fluid restriction orders from a doctor cannot safely take that much. Our medical team reviews every intake form and confirms whether a second bag is right for you.

How to Know If You Need Two Liters

Signs you might benefit from a second bag include very dark urine, dizziness when standing, severe thirst that water has not fixed, recent fluid loss from vomiting or sweating, or feeling hollow and shaky after a brutal night. Your RN can help you decide on the spot after vitals.

Common Questions

  • Will two liters make me need the bathroom all day?

You will likely need to use the bathroom shortly after, yes. That is part of the recovery process. Within a few hours, your body settles.

  • Can I add a third bag?

Generally no for a single home visit. Two liters is the safe ceiling outside of a clinical setting.

  • What is the difference between LR and saline?

LR has extra electrolytes. Saline is just salt and water. Most clients do better with LR, especially after heavy fluid loss.

  • Is two liters too much if I am healthy?

For most healthy adults, no. Our RN will check vitals between bags to confirm.

  • How much hydration do I get from drinking water versus IV?

Drinking water has to pass through your gut, and your kidneys regulate how much actually stays. IV fluids land directly in your circulation, which is why one bag can do what several glasses of water cannot.
