The Most Talked-About Wellness Molecule
In the last few years, NAD+ has gone from a research lab term to a wellness mainstream topic. Major podcasts cover it. Longevity experts recommend it. Wellness clinics across NYC offer it. And growing numbers of people are booking NAD+ IV therapy as part of their healthy aging, recovery, and performance routines.
So what is this molecule that everyone is talking about? Why is it suddenly so popular? And what should you actually expect if you book a drip? This page covers the science of NAD+, what research supports and does not support, what the drip experience is like, and how to decide if NAD+ IV therapy is right for you.

What Is NAD+ Exactly?
NAD+ stands for nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide. The plus sign refers to its oxidized form, which is the active form your cells use. Without the chemistry jargon: it is a coenzyme that exists in every cell of your body and plays a critical role in how your cells produce energy.
Every time you eat a meal, your body breaks down the food into smaller molecules. These molecules then go through a series of chemical reactions to produce ATP, the basic fuel your cells use for everything from muscle contractions to brain activity. NAD+ is essential to these reactions. Without enough NAD+, your cells cannot produce the fuel they need.
NAD+ also has other important roles. It supports DNA repair, helps regulate gene expression, and is used by a family of proteins called sirtuins that play roles in cellular health and aging. Researchers continue to discover new functions of NAD+ in the body.

How NAD+ Works in Your Cells
Inside every one of your cells are tiny structures called mitochondria, often called the powerhouses of the cell. Mitochondria use NAD+ as a critical part of the energy production process.
During the energy production process, NAD+ accepts electrons from food molecules and becomes NADH (the reduced form). NADH then donates these electrons to the electron transport chain, where the electrons are used to produce ATP. The NADH gets converted back to NAD+ and the cycle starts again.
This cycling happens millions of times per second in your cells. Your body produces about your own body weight in ATP every day. None of this works without enough NAD+ available to keep the cycle running.
When NAD+ levels are healthy, your mitochondria run efficiently. When NAD+ drops, energy production slows down, and you can feel it as fatigue, brain fog, slower recovery, and less endurance for both physical and mental tasks.

The Salvage Pathway: How Your Body Recycles NAD+
Your body recycles NAD+ through a process called the salvage pathway. After NAD+ is used in cellular reactions, it gets broken down into smaller pieces, which are then reassembled back into NAD+. This recycling system keeps your NAD+ levels relatively stable when everything is working well.
The challenge is that the efficiency of the salvage pathway drops with age, stress, poor sleep, alcohol use, intense physical activity, and exposure to environmental toxins. When the salvage pathway cannot keep up with demand, your NAD+ levels drop. This is one of the reasons people in their 40s, 50s, and beyond often report feeling slower to recover, foggier, and lower energy than they used to.
By the time most people reach their 40s, NAD+ levels are about half of what they were in their 20s. By 60, levels are often even lower. This decline has been linked in research to a range of age-related changes, from reduced energy production to slower cellular repair to changes in metabolic function.
What NAD+ IV Therapy May Support
Research on NAD+ is still developing. Most of the strongest data so far is in animal studies and laboratory research, with growing human studies in specific contexts. Here is what the current evidence suggests, with appropriate caveats.

Healthy Aging Support
This is the area with the most research interest and the most marketing hype. Research has shown that boosting NAD+ in animals affects markers of aging, including metabolism and mitochondrial function. Whether NAD+ therapy in humans produces meaningful changes in healthspan or lifespan is not yet established.
Mitochondrial Function
NAD+ supports mitochondrial efficiency. Animal studies have shown that boosting NAD+ improves mitochondrial function in older animals. Whether this translates to meaningful changes in humans is still under investigation.
Cellular Energy Production
This is the most well-established role. NAD+ is essential for ATP production. When levels are low, energy production slows. Boosting NAD+ supports the energy production system.
Athletic Recovery
Many athletes report faster recovery and reduced fatigue with NAD+ IV therapy. The science suggests this could be due to improved cellular energy production and mitochondrial function. Specific human research on athletic performance and NAD+ is still developing.
Cognitive Function
Your brain uses about 20 percent of your body's energy. NAD+ supports the energy production needed for focus, memory, and processing speed. Many clients report mental clarity after NAD+ drips.
Recovery from Stress and Burnout
Anecdotally, many clients booking NAD+ for burnout report feeling restored after a series of drips. The science makes sense: chronic stress depletes NAD+, and replacing it supports the recovery process.
Substance Use Recovery
Some clinics offer high-dose NAD+ as part of recovery from alcohol or drug addiction. The research here is preliminary, and we do not market NAD+ for addiction recovery. If addiction recovery is your goal, work with addiction medicine specialists.

What NAD+ Cannot Do
Let us be honest about the limits.
- NAD+ IV therapy is not FDA approved as a treatment for any medical condition
- It does not reverse aging in any literal sense
- It does not cure any disease
- It does not produce immediate dramatic effects for most people
- It is not a substitute for sleep, nutrition, exercise, or stress management
- Research on long-term effects of repeated NAD+ IV therapy in humans is limited
- Not all of the marketing claims you see online are backed by strong evidence
With realistic expectations, NAD+ can be a useful part of a wellness routine. With unrealistic expectations, you will be disappointed.

What NAD+ IV Therapy Feels Like
NAD+ IV therapy can feel a little different from other drips. Most clients feel relaxed throughout the drip, with a wave of mental clarity by the end. Some clients feel more pronounced sensations during the drip itself.
Common sensations during NAD+ infusion:
- Mild warmth or flushing in the chest, face, or hands
- A slight chest tightness or pressure if the drip runs too fast
- Mild nausea, especially if you have not eaten recently
- A subtle wave of mental alertness that builds during the drip
- Sometimes a feeling of "buzzing" or heightened awareness
These sensations are normal and usually mild. They are dose- and rate-dependent: running the NAD+ slower reduces them. Your nurse will start slow and adjust the rate based on how you feel.
After the drip, many clients feel sharper, clearer, and more energized. The benefits often build over hours or days, with some clients reporting effects lasting up to 2 weeks. Athletic clients often report faster recovery during that window.

Is NAD+ IV Therapy Safe?
In standard wellness IV doses, NAD+ has a strong safety record. Serious adverse events are rare. The most common side effects are dose- and rate-related (flushing, mild chest tightness, nausea) and resolve quickly when the drip rate is slowed.
That said, NAD+ IV therapy is not appropriate for everyone. We screen carefully during intake and may decline treatment for clients with:
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding (NAD+ is not recommended)
- Active or untreated kidney or liver disease
- Active heart disease, irregular heartbeat, or recent cardiac event
- Active cancer treatment (requires oncologist clearance)
- Allergies to any ingredients in the drip
- Active psychiatric crisis or severe acute illness
- Children under 18
Tell our medical provider during intake about any medical conditions, medications, and concerns. We always put safety first.
Frequently Asked Questions
How fast does NAD+ work?
Some clients feel mental clarity by the end of the drip. Others notice the effects more the next day. Athletic recovery effects typically show up in the 24 to 48 hours after the drip.
How long do the effects last?
Most clients report effects lasting 5 to 14 days from a single drip. Sleep, stress, and lifestyle factors affect how long you feel the benefits.
How often should I book NAD+ therapy?
Most clients book one every 2 to 4 weeks for sustained support. Some book weekly during particularly demanding stretches like burnout recovery or peak athletic training.
How much does a NAD+ drip cost?
Our Zen Cocktail with NAD+ is $399. There are no hidden travel fees in our standard service area.
Is NAD+ IV better than oral NMN or NR?
They work differently. NAD+ IV delivers NAD+ directly into your bloodstream at concentrations no oral form can match. NMN and NR are oral precursors your body converts into NAD+; absorption is slower and more variable. Many clients use both: regular NAD+ IVs plus daily oral NMN or NR.
Will NAD+ make me feel younger?
Many clients report feeling more energized and sharper, which can feel youthful. There is no evidence that NAD+ IV therapy reverses aging in any measurable biological sense.
Can NAD+ help with brain fog?
Many clients report mental clarity after NAD+ drips. The mechanism makes sense: NAD+ supports brain energy production. Whether you specifically will respond depends on what is driving your brain fog.
Will I feel anything during the drip?
Most clients feel mild flushing, warmth, or chest tightness when the drip is running. These sensations are dose- and rate-related; we run the drip slowly to minimize them. Some clients also feel a subtle wave of alertness.
How long does the drip take?
Plan for 60 to 90 minutes of drip time, with the full appointment running about 90 to 120 minutes including setup.
Can I work during the drip?
Many clients use the drip time to take a phone call, answer emails, or do light work. The drip does not interfere with most desk activities.
Is NAD+ FDA approved?
NAD+ IV therapy is not FDA approved as a treatment for any specific medical condition. It is offered as a wellness service to support cellular energy and recovery.
Can I get NAD+ during pregnancy?
No. NAD+ is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. We have a separate an appropriate drip designed specifically for pregnancy.
Will NAD+ help me lose weight?
NAD+ supports cellular energy and metabolism. It does not directly cause weight loss. Some clients pair NAD+ with broader weight management strategies.
Is NAD+ safe to combine with my medications?
Most medications are compatible. Tell our medical provider during intake about all medications. We screen for any potential issues.
Can I get NAD+ IV therapy after surgery?
Always with your surgeon's approval. NAD+ may not be appropriate immediately after some procedures.
